Panasonic announced that it has been named winner of three prestigious 2018 Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) awards. This is widely recognised as one of the most coveted photo and imaging accolades in the world. The Panasonic LUMIX DC-G9 has been awarded the ‘Best Mirrorless CSC Expert’, the Panasonic LUMIX DC-GH5s won the ‘Best Professional Photo/Video Camera’ honour and the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-ZS200/TZ200/TZ220 won the ‘Best Expert Compact Camera’ honour.
‘Best Mirrorless CSC Expert’
LUMIX DC-G9
The newest Panasonic LUMIX DC-G9 is an all-round performer, which has earned it the ‘Best Mirrorless CSC Expert” award. A TIPA jury spokesperson commented: “The camera delivers state-of-the-art image quality paired with an astonishing frame rate, a true reflection of high-quality design created to ensure every image captured comes to life.”
Other outstanding design features particularly recognised by the jury are the mirrorless camera that delivers up to 60 fps in both JPEG and Raw formats, which incorporates DFD-AF with an incredible 0.04 second lock focus speed. The impressive built-in stabilisation system means that the camera compensates up to 6.5 stops, as well as providing a high-resolution mode that delivers a staggering 80-megapixel-stills – perfect for capturing those once-in-a-lifetime nature shots.
“The camera is a favourite for wildlife and nature photographers; since its ability to capture the finest of details with the natural texture and rich imaging from the 3-inch free-angle display, combined with its ultra-sharp OLED-Viewfinder, ensures stunning shots every time,” continued the TIPA jury spokesperson.
‘Best Professional Photo/Video Camera’
Panasonic LUMIX DC-GH5s
A favourite of professional photographers, the LUMIX DC-GH5s is a highly versatile camera, designed to handle both ends of the image capture spectrum – both still and video — although it tips the scales towards the video side. Boasting the highest sensitivity of any LUMIX camera, particularly in low light, this is one of the standout features that enables images to be captured as the human eye sees them; regardless of low-lit surroundings.
A TIPA jury spokesperson commented: “The camera’s 10.2MP High Sensitivity MOS sensor utilises “Dual Native ISO Technology” to dig into even the darkest areas, allowing high ISO capture without supplemental lighting. Panasonic LUMIX technology ensures it has numerous video capture options, including cinema 4K/60p and Full HD/200Mbps – making it a firm favourite of budding filmmakers and professionals looking to frame their best work.”
On the still side, the GH5S has been created to deliver 14-bit Raw images at 11 fps. In 12-bit the frequency increases to 12 fps, ensuring photographs maintain the highest of professional standards. When transferred to the editing stage, the GH5S features dual card slots with numerous output connections, including HDMI and USB-C to seamlessly transfer the image data.
